EXIST

Do you ever break a tradition and yet hold it so dearly? Well, that is the case for these  HEARTS...

V
- I know this is just another boring question; But, tell us how Heart II Exist was born?

H2E - Heart2exist was formed in 1999 because we wanted to create a group that can help bring Asian American pride to the music industry. Heart2exist is focused on creating original music that is deep in meaning. We hope the music can express our culture, identity, and pride. Our goal is to always stay creative and fresh.

V - What is the most exiting thing about being in a
group (band)? And how do you see the future of H2E?

H2E - The most exiting thing about being in a group is seeing the support from the fans. When we see fans showing up to see our performances and telling us that our music means something to them, it's the greatest feeling in the world. Heart2exist's future looks bright. We hope to continue creating music and hopefully touches people. If music have no meaning, why create it?

V - About your new CD - how do you decide which song to put in? was it a difficult decision? By the way, do you write your own music?

H2E -Yes, we create our own music. We think it's important to create your own music because we all need to express our selves so others can understand us better. Writing music is our way of expressing ourselves. Ya, the new album is finally finished. We are hoping to release it in Feb. 2002. It was alot of work but I think it was worth the effort. Choosing the songs to put in the album was very hard because we had about 16 tracks to choose from and we could only fit on 11. We choose songs that fit into the theme of the album "Who I am" and save the other 5 tracks for the second album. Eventually all the songs will be our for the fans to listen to. The second album should be done by
this Xmas so the fans won't have to wait too long for those other 5 songs we have to take out of the first album.

V - Do you listen, sing and enjoy Vietnamese music? Do you see it going mainstream?

H2E -Vietnamese music is great. We remember hearing our parents sing those classic Viet songs as kids. The songs are very poetic and full of culture. We thinK Vietnamese music can go mainstream if it's
diversified. As long as we are not afraid to make the
music more diversed and allow it to grow. Viet music
can be as powerful as any other type of music.
Heart2Exist tries to create music with a flavor of
Vietnamese by adding its musical instruments and culture. There's so many things out there to try
with music, to make it more diversed.

V - If you guys were not together in H2E, what would each of you be doing right now?

H2E - Well this is a tricky questions. Eventhough we are in H2E. We each still have our own lives. Le Huy Phat is in graduate school working on a PHD in psychology and teacher. Ngoc Diem goes to college for law and working. Pauline Truc works full time and sings every weekend at a night club. Le Huy Phong composes music and works full time. Besides being in H2E we each live our own busy lives and have separate dreams and goals. But the love for music is what we have in common.

V - How important is music in your life ? Have you ever been in situations where you just want to drop the whole thing and take another direction?

H2E -Music is very important to us cause it's what allows us to express ourselves. Sometimes the committment and time spent with music is overwhleming, especially with our busy schedules. But when we get frustrated we just take time to refocus and work on other aspects of our lives. But since we treat music as a hobby, we always try to make it fun.

  V - Your Idols?

H2E - Wow, idols. There are so many. I think we each can answer that our parents are our number one idols. Their determination and support always inspires us. Also musicians like Brian Adams, Michael Bolton, Tupac, Dido. Boyz2men, Babyface. The artist who have create original music that has survived the test of time. Those are our idols.

V - Where did you learn how to sing and dance? or does it just naturally come to you?

H2E - Singing and dancing came naturally but only to a certain extent. A person can be born with natural talents, but if they dont work at it and practice and continue learning the talents will be waste. So practice, practice, practice. We still have lots to learn. You can never be perfect.

V - How much of an influence does American pop culture have on you? do you ever find it hard to blend in? and what does that have to do with the
type of music you are into right now?

H2E - Ya, American pop culture influences our music a lot. We think it's important not to try to blend in but instead just to learn from everything around you. It's nice to be accepted but it's easier to be happy with what your doing even if it's not accepted. We create our music using what we think sounds right. Our music is hip hop, R&B, ballad, rap, soul, and a twist of heart- our own flavor.

V - If you were allowed to sing only 1 song - what
would it be?

H2E - Wow this is a hard question. One song.
Well that would depend on the occasion. If it's for a
party we'd sing "I wanna see you sweat". If it we for a romantic occasion, we'd sing "Love you like crazy". If it was for a meaninful occasion we'd sing "25 year". So it all depends. But can't we just sing
them all.
